Land in Sri Lanka and make your way to Colombo, one of the major cities in Sri Lanka. This city is made with modernity with a twist of history, as seen by the various architecture scattered around the city. Check into your lodging and relax on the first day of your journey.
Spend the morning hours of the day visiting malls and shopping centres in Colombo. Shop to your heart’s content and return to the hotel. To relax, have a couple’s Ayurveda massage. As the cool air of the night settles in, cycle through the city as you come across the sights of skyscrapers, parks and the liveliness of the nightlife. Enjoy these sights of Colombo until you retire to your hotel for the night.
Bid farewell to Colombo and set out for Sigiriya, a location renowned as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located here is the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a historical marvel that spans many metres towards the sky. En route to Sigiriya, make a stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary. Orphaned and injured elephants are cared for at this sanctuary. It is a heartwarming sight to see the young elephants lining up to be fed by the caretakers. Arrive in Sigiriya to hike the fortress that is adorned with fascinating frescoes. At night make your way to your hotel to rest after this intensive day of exploration.
Between November and April are the best months to take a hot air balloon ride due to the calm winds. If the season is correct, take an air excursion in the morning and take in the views of Sigiriya from the sky. In the evening, head to Minneriya National Park to take a safari jeep ride through the park. Come across the extensive wildlife, mainly the large population of the Asian Elephants.
Early in the morning, head back to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and climb on top just in time for the sunrise. After marvelling at the golden sun’s rays, head back to your lodging and pack up to make your way to Kandy. On the route to Kandy, stop the the Spice Gardens and learn of the culinary and medicinal uses of the various spices and herbs that are grown there, after which you can receive a head and shoulders massage. Reach Kandy where you will be able to view a cultural dance with its rigor and splendour.
In the morning, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. View its splendid interior and walk along the vast area inside, then take a walk inside the temple walls and see the splendid views of hundreds of clay lamps being lit. Tour the city and view the pleasant architecture that is a twist on modernity and history. Take in the views of the Kandy lake. Visit the neighbouring town of Peradeniya, where you can shop traditional crafts such as gems, silks, batiks and wood carvings.
Wake up early in the morning and take a train ride to Hatton. This cool climate town has hills lined with tea plantations as far as the eyes can see. Check into your hotel where you can relax and enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner with each other.
Walk among tea brushes and explore the tea plantation. Here you will see the delicate method in which tea pickers collect this leaf which will be sent to a factory to be turned into the world-famous Sri Lankan tea. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea in the cold weather of Hatton.
Explore Galle, the final location on your itinerary. This seaside beach is home to old ruins, pristine beaches, delicious seafood and a lively nightlife. Explore the ruins of the old Dutch Fort where cobblestones of the past still line the walkways. Head to the Madu River where you can go on a long excursion through the river where an abundance of wildlife such as birds can be seen all around. Enjoy the scenic views of this location as you travel along the river.
Spend the day lounging by the seashore, listening to the sounds of the waves crashing as the wind soothes you. Enjoy a cool king coconut as you bask in the sun.
Head back to the airport to depart Sri Lanka.
